‘Turn It Around’ is three and a half minutes of pure, euphoric house music. It blends Idehen’s signature rhythmic poetry with a driving four-on-the-floor beat and a soul-saving female vocal. Originally suggested as an album closer by Ylva, the wife of Idehen’s creative partner Ludvig Parment, the track serves as a redemptive punctuation mark to a record defined by healing.
A Journey from Spoken Word to Dancefloor Joy
Idehen’s path to this solo debut has been a nearly twenty-year odyssey through London’s poetry scene and collaborations with the likes of Sons of Kemet and Benin City. Following a transformative move to Stockholm during the pandemic, Idehen began a creative rebirth alongside Parment. The resulting album is a cathartic mix of house beats and lyrical meditations on grief, fatherhood, and resilience.
Critics are already hailing the record as a masterpiece of contemporary optimism. MOJO awarded it four stars, praising Idehen’s “narrative vision,” while The Guardian noted that “cultivating joy” is Idehen’s primary mission. It is, as Mr Porter aptly described, “poetry reflected through a nightclub mirror ball.”
